306 days left

oh man there are so many weirdos here in iowa city. like weird guys who wear booty shorts and huge earings and horrible boots that just make me want to frow up looking at them. one of them just walked in here and i was like "come on...really?". anyways. yeah the byu-utah game was pretty huge also for the students in our branch cause a lot of them got their undergrad either at the U or from byu so needless to say i was pretty updated on the game. which was nice. :) haha yeah im surprised that we were able to stay up with them even though i should have been tied up because of the special teams...  :(   haha i can see right now nate standing up...well more like jumping up and yelling "COME ON!!" and clapping his hands together and then saying "dang it brian!" hahahahahaha soooo super funny!

the story about the robber ( 1st counselor in the provo mission presidency told this story at the adult session of stake conference...oh i can't remember...maybe like costa rica...2 missionaries were tracking along and they got mugged.  The robber asked them to put their hands up....they did...one missionary said, while his hands were up..."what's your name?"...the robber surprisingly answered...the missionary thought...hmmm, I'm going to ask him his address too...the robber again surprisingly told them.  The robber let them go, and the missionaries went to the address the next day.  The robber's brother in law answered the door and they asked for the robber...  they went in and talked to him about the church but he declined.  but the brother in law DID want to know about the church.  He was converted and baptized.  he then served a mission and the last they talked to him...he was a bishop down there!)  is pretty funny. haha the lord puts people in our path who are ready for the gospel, we just have to be ready to receive them.

this week has been a good one. another game day on saturday but not nearly as many people as the first home game. i think it may have been a result of it being a rival game vs iowa state university. anyway we have called off our baptismal date because she got cold feet and was just ignoring us. would not answer our texts or phone calls and wouldn't come to church. so we finally said this is stupid. so we went to where she worked which is a really nice place to talk to her cause she just sits and watches over a "house" basically. so we talked to her and told her that we want her to be comfortable with the decision and that the baptism wasn't going to happen anymore. so hopefully that relaxed her and made her feel more at ease. we have been getting a lot of referrals from the other elders and we are contacting them and getting some pretty good success. the work is still picking up and im getting better at contacting people in the streets and that sort of stuff.  i really like it here in iowa city. i think it is a lot harder than other places but still good.

well thats about it for now! i love you and miss you all!

Questions:
You mentioned last time that it was game weekend...didn't you just come from a college town too?  I never once heard you talk about game day there in ames?  Were you just not around them as much?  yeah i did come from a college town but in the winter and at the close of the football season so we never really heard any thing about games or anything like that. plus the college campus wasn't in our area. we were the northern part of ames and the college was in the sisters area. so we kinda steered clear of that place.

How often do you teach gospel principles?
not very often if at all. we didn't have it yesterday cause there was no one that needed a gospel principles class so we were able to go into gospel doctine.

What was special to you this week?
what was special to me this week was being able to see a homeless man and see that he has nothing. nothing at all. we were working at the food back/crisis center and he came in and everyone was being so super supportive of his decision to come in and take some food. he said that he lived under one of the bridges in town and that he really literally only has God for company and i thought, maybe we need to be thinking more in this perspective. we need to put God first in our lives and then he will make sure that the other things that need to happen, happen. whether you wanted them to or not. pretty cool.

Is it getting chillier?  in the mornings?
yeah it is getting pretty chilly in the mornings. we are running every day now in the morning and really love it! i love being able to wake up and excercise and be ready for the day! its awesome!
